Ten Interview Questions for Project Managers and Engineers

Dartboard with a post-it note stating interview questions

I found the following ten interview questions useful when recruiting Project Managers and Project Engineers

Engineering, Procurement and Construction Skills

  • What design disciplines are you comfortable working with
  • What engineering standards have you been involved with
  • What has been your purchasing authority
  • What are the main weaknesses of construction contractors and what have you done to improve their performance
  • How do you motivate people to work safely

Project Management Skills

  • What action have you recently taken when the plan is not being met
  • What is your biggest project achievement so far
  • Which parts of the job do you particularly like doing
  • Describe an important lesson that you learned from your last project
  • What have you done to keep up to date with project best practices

Note I never needed all of these interview questions to establish a view of the candidates so please treat as a shopping list and pad out with questions specific to the role in question
